Areej Mawasi

Dr. Areej Mawasi is a Lecturer (tenure-track) in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Technion. She studies learners' engagement and designs learning environments with tools like technologies, games, and hands-on artifacts. In her interdisciplinary research, she focuses on the intersection of learning sciences, technologies and digital media, design-based methods, and critical STEM (ethics, equity, and societal aspects of engagement with STEM). Areej research focuses on understanding the sociocultural and political dimensions of learning and designing interactive learning environments towards just ends, particularly with non-dominant communities and learners. She uses mixed methods and interaction analysis approaches to study learning processes and learner engagement. 


Areej was a Postdoc Research Associate (21-22) in learning sciences,  co-design methodology, AI technology literacies, and equity in NSF National AI Institute for Student-AI Teaming at CU Boulder Institute of Cognitive Science.  She earned her PhD in Learning, Literacies, and Technologies at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Arizona State University in 2021 and her master's degree at ASU MLFTC in Educational Technology where she was a Fulbright Scholar (2015-2017). In ASU, she worked at Center for Science and the Imagination, focusing on learning sciences and public engagement with science and technology, and design methods in the learning sciences.
