The Faculty of Education in Science and Technology has 8 distinct mathematics / science / engineering / technology (STEM) learning tracks, listed below. Each track demands a high degree of expertise in the chosen discipline as well as a solid pedagogical knowledge background.

the two single engineering education tracks are among the biggest tracks in the Faculty undergraduate disciplines. This and the fact that the Technion is the only university in Israel offering a degree in teaching high school engineering, reflects the Faculty’s leading role in the evolution of engineering education. This is especially important as high school engineering education has recently been recognized as a major need for Israeli’s economy. Consequently, an effort has been made in Israel to revive the technological education and it has been receiving increasing attention in Israel, after it almost vanished during the past twenty years, while the Israeli industry and IDF were “starving” for thousands of practical engineers with technological background (not necessarily engineers).

Graduate Program

Graduates of the Technion and other universities can study towards a M.Sc. (with theses), M.Ed. (without thesis) or a Ph.D. in Science and Technology Education. Students are required to complete courses in educational research, statistics and their subject matter specialization, in addition to conducting supervised research (except M.Ed. students). In-service teachers sometimes chose the Master’s degree without thesis option because of the workload.

After obtaining their degree, M.Sc. and Ph.D. graduates serve as science and technology coordinators in high schools, teach at universities and colleges, and hold educational leadership positions in teaching centers, the Ministry of Education and in industry training departments. Our graduates have the skills to develop new science and technology curricula and instructional methods, conduct educational research and assessment, and provide in-service teacher training.
