 nian and Israeli Children's Literature
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:\n Location:כיתה 307\, הפקולטה לחינוך
למדע וטכנולוגיה\n Zoom: \n Dragons and Walls: Representatio
n of the Separation Wall in Palestinian and Israeli Children's Literature\
nDr. Loaay Wattad\, Tel-Aviv University\nמארחת דר' אריג' מוא
סי\nAbstract\nIn this guest talk\, we will explore the intricate and imp
actful ways in which Israeli and Palestinian children's literature depicts
the Separation Wall\, a significant and divisive symbol in the Israeli-Pa
lestinian relations.\nThe talk will underscore how these literary works re
flect the varied perspectives and lived experiences on either side of the
Wall\, engaging young readers with the multifaceted issues of freedom\, id
entity\, and justice. We will showcase specific instances where the Wall i
s both metaphorically and physically transcended\, presenting a subversive
take on the current reality and offering a cautiously hopeful vision for
the future. This exploration will highlight the role of children's literat
ure in shaping societal understanding and challenging prevailing narrative
s through the eyes of the young.\nBio\nLoaay Wattad is a 2023-2024 EUME Po
stdoc Fellow at the Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin. In his researc
h\, he focuses on socio-political themes in Palestinian and Israeli childr
en's literature. He pursued his PhD studies at Tel Aviv University\, focus
ing on the sociology of Palestinian children's literature. Wattad is the e
ditor of the Hkaya journal\, dedicated to Arabic children's and young adul
 t literature and culture.
